As the annual tradition of weekly Christmas address, on Christmas Eve, the White House issued the video of the President and the First Lady wishing all Americans a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. This is the last Christmas message Michelle and Barack Obama address to our nation as the First Lady and the President. It brings bittersweet reflections on the Obamas’ eight years at the White House as the first family. The President and the First Lady expressed their deep gratitude for our troops and their families for their services, especially for those who are stationed far from home. They encouraged everyone to visit JoiningForces.gov to find out how to support service members, veterans and military families in our own community.

This year the holiday theme at the White House is “The Gifts of the Holidays”, from the gifts of peace and security our troops have given us, to the gift of a great education and many more. The First Lady Michelle Obama relates Christmas spirit to the core of our great virtues and values as Americans, regardless of our religion and backgrounds, she reminds everyone that “We should treat others as we would want to be treated. And that we care for the sick, feed the hungry and welcome the stranger, no matter where they come from, or how they practice their faith”.

The president’s holiday message reminds Americans the true meaning of Christmas is showing “love, compassion and hope” to one another and the achievements of his administrators have gained over the past eight years. “By so many measures, our country is stronger and more prosperous than it was when we first got here and I'm hopeful we'll build on the progress we've made together in the years to come.” He added:”So as we look forward to the New Year, let’s resolve to recommit ourselves to the values we share.”
