Though Taylor Swift never publicly confessed who was her inspiration for the hit song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” in “Red” album released Oct 22, 2012, but there have been speculations that it was Jake Gyllenhaal. Swift and Gyllenhaal dated, broke up and got back together, and then broke up again, resulting in the thus-said inspiration of the song. Gyllenhaal is into Indie music and the lyrics mentioned her beau in the song would listen to Indie records to find a peace of mind after a fight with her. In the musical video, the actor gave Swift a scarf just like the one Gyllenhaal gave her.
In the song, Taylor Swift vividly painted the picture of their on-and-off-again relationship involving fighting, making up, getting back then breaking up again. But finally it came to an end. This song confirmed it, too many times of trying is too many times of mistakes:
"But we are never ever ever ever getting back together
Like, ever...
We are never, ever, ever getting back together"
